Writing for Inside Housing, centre director Thomas Aubrey argues that it should be dynamic city regions, not unproductive landowners, that capture the uplift in land value when housing is built.
“Analysis by the Centre for Progressive Capitalism highlights that every year, landowners earn windfall profits of £9.3bn per annum which amounts to £185bn over the next 20 years. Given that these profits are the result of rising demand due to the productive work of firms and workers, the reignition of a public debate on who should be entitled to this windfall is welcome indeed.”
